India have made two injury-enforced changes to their squads for the upcoming white-ball assignments, with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi returning for the T20I series against Zimbabwe after Varun Chakravarthy was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Chakravarthy will not recover in time for the three-match T20I series after medical scans detected a Grade 2 injury to his left hamstring. The spinner had already missed the final two T20Is against England after suffering discomfort during the third match of the series.

Bishnoi, initially not part of the Zimbabwe squad, is expanding his cricket talent and playing as a backup for Chakravarthi now. The leg-spinner had recently played in a T20I series in England where he had the chance to play the first and second matches. In the first match, rain caused the game to be abandoned but Bishnoi’s performance in the second match was not satisfactory; he gave away 60 runs in 4 overs of the match.

In more news, India had to change the ODI squad as fast bowler Harshit Rana was ruled out of the squad after getting injured and suffering a Grade 1 injury to his right hamstring during the third T20I match against England. Due to this, Prince Yadav will now stay with the Indian team and take part in the ODI squad as he was selected for the T20I matches only for England tour.

The ODI bowling squad will now be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, whose comeback comes as a shot in the arm for India’s bowling attack as preparations move ahead for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in the coming year. The pace options during the series will also include Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Prince Yadav.

Harshit Rana’s latest injury marks yet another misfortune in a series of injuries faced by him in recent months. Earlier on, he had missed out on playing IPL 2026 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a hamstring injury. Though he made a comeback to international cricket during the T20I Series against Ireland and England, shortly afterward he suffered another injury.

Chakravarthy too has continued to be in injury news. The spinner had fractured his left toe during the IPL, necessitating rehabilitation that caused him to miss the T20I series against Afghanistan and Ireland. The latest injury is concerning, especially since he has underperformed in terms of wicket-taking opportunities, claiming just one wicket in two matches against England.

The T20I team of India is expected to land in Harare on 20th July in preparation for the series in Zimbabwe. VVS Laxman will lead the tour as the team’s head coach, with the help of Sunil Joshi and Hrishikesh Kanitkar while the regular head coach Gautam Gambhir will take a break after the ODI series against England.

Following the disappointing T20I series defeats in both Ireland and England, the BCCI is likely to conduct a review of India’s past performances. The discussion will also involve senior members of the board, including Gautam Gambhir and T20 captain Shreyas Iyer.
