Ravindra Jadeja will be appearing in the India ODI team after two years in the series against the West Indies. Jadeja last played in an ODI format match in January 2021, and his return to the team comes at a time when the Indian ODI team is preparing for an important series.

On the 16th of September 2023, the BCCI announced its players for the India ODI squad led by Shubman Gill and KL Rahul as his deputy.

Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi Receive Maiden ODI Call-Ups

The squad selection has also paved the way for two cricketers who are going to make their debut in the ODI squad of India. Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi have got their maiden ODI call-up for the West Indies series. 

Dhir has made it to the squad after his good performance in domestic T20 cricket. He scored a total of 655 runs in ten matches in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League with a strike rate of 217.61 which includes a score of 173 in one of the matches. He is expected to give another option to the middle-order for India.

On the other hand, Auqib Nabi has already been part of the extended squad of India for the Test series against Sri Lanka. However, he still has not played an international match and now he has a chance to perform.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Added to ODI Squad

Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been incorporated into the ODI team after some changes in India’s Asian Games team. He was originally appointed in the Asian Games squad but was removed from that team and chosen for the ODIs against the West Indies.

The change has been made as Hardik Pandya is still yet to get the fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

West Indies ODI Series Schedule

The ODI series is composed of three games. The series will take place on September 27 at three different venues in India. The first match will be at Trivandrum, and in succession, there will be matches at the stadiums at Guwahati and New Chandigarh.

T20I Squad Also Announced

The selectors have announced the T20I squad of India for the 5-match West Indies series. The T20I team will be captained by Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma serving as the vice-captain.

Among the other players named in the squad are Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav, who have been part of the Indian T20I squad during the Zimbabwe tour.

The series will take place beginning on October 6 in Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Jasprit Bumrah Not Included

Jasprit Bumrah is not in the West Indies series squad for either the ODI or T20I format. His last appearance was in India’s T20I series against Afghanistan, which is ongoing.

The series against the West Indies presents India with a combination of veterans and new, upcoming players, especially with Jadeja rejoining the ODI side.
